Silent Hill 2 was such a good game that it would take far, far more than reduced fog and the occasional freeze to ruin it. Open-source emulator PCSX2 is the best way to play PlayStation 2 games, proudly declaring that it supports 'over 98 of the original PS2 library'.

But most of the changes are so minor that they're non-issues, and I swear, if you hadn't played the originals, you'd have no idea. A lot of people refer to a popular review by a group called Twin Perfect, where they take the time to pick apart every single difference between the two versions (and I mean every single one- the review is two hours long!), and while they definitely are accurate in listing the changes, the review is extremely biased and they attach an unreasonable amount of weight onto every single change, as if the game is literally ruined because a particular sound effect is quieter in the remake than in the original. These are the best settings you can get, most accurate to the original software mode graphics, including soft shadows, self-shadows, correct lighting and unfiltered textures. :-) I enjoyed them, but seriously, if you ask about them on Reddit or a gaming forum or anywhere, all you'll get is hate. Anti aliasing and resolution upgrades dont help in this case, since they introduce effects misalignments.
